Greetings Arts Consortium of Carver County Members, Friends, and enthusiasts!! We are heading into summer with sunshine and a full event schedule! The event line-up for the summer sets the stage for the ACCC to meet its mission: to strengthen our community through the arts – and cultivate the arts through the community.

Visual Arts News
Our latest exhibit, Express Yourself in Purple, opens June 2. We are excited to see what our community of artists have created to honor Prince. This exhibit will open a month long celebration of our late hometown celebrity. In conjunction with the Exhibit, the ACCC is sponsoring the County wide event, Purple Reigns. We will honor Prince posthumously as our 2021 Honorary Member of the ACCC at the Artist’s Reception. As his favorite color was purple… it’s natural to bring everyone together as we “paint the County Purple” for the month of June. Purple Reigns is approved by the Prince Estate, Paisley Park.
Be sure to stop into the ACCC Gift Shop in June and pick up your free Purple mini – swag kit to start decorating your home or business!! Fun for the whole family!
Show Dates: June 2 to July 3, 2021
Artists’ Reception and Purple Reigns Honorary Ceremony: Thursday, June 17, 2021, 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the ACCC Arts Center Gallery and Chaska Community Center Theater.

Looking forward to Summer
Summer is upon us as are more opportunities to get out and enjoy the weather. In June, July, and August, the Literary Committee is offering three events for open readings for authors, poets, and anyone interested in hearing writers share their words. Masks and social distancing are recommended for non-vaccinated attendees. Look for more information for these events coming to Chaska (June), Victoria (July), and Waconia (August) on the ACCC website and social media pages as they become available.

The booth is open to ACCC members and non-members alike and there is a nominal fee to secure registration for event. The Literary Committee and the ACCC are looking for instructors for classes and workshops (virtual or in person) to share their knowledge and passion with others. Festivals
Purple Reigns
“Painting the County purple” is underway. Invitations have been sent to our cities, schools, libraries and chambers of commerce. Carver County has fully and enthusiastically embraced this first-ever County-wide public art project. They have committed to lighting the Government Center with purple flood lights during the month of June. Please join us, personally, wear purple at your workplace, be creative; in your neighborhood, challenge participation, develop a contest. Take photos of every “purple” expression and share on social media using #purplereigns2021.
The purpose of this event is trifold:
- To honor Prince. The ACCC is posthumously naming him Honorary Member, 2021.
- To draw attention to the arts in Carver County & invite everyone to be an artist during the month of June.
- County-wide individuals create “community” – a healing act as we emerge from COVID.
If you’d like to be on the Purple Reigns Committee, or participate in the event, please contact Barb Hone at purplereigns@

Barn Quilt
The Art Tourism Committee has been working with the County on a barn quilt for the Baylor Regional Park barn in Norwood Young America. This newest barn quilt will join the ever growing open air art gallery of 45+ barn quilts across the County. It is projected to be installed this summer. Carver County artist, Suzanne Theisfeld has designed the quilt.
The Arts Consortium and Art Tourism Committee is inviting the public to participate in a naming contest to “name” this latest new barn quilt. The winner will be announced this summer at the barn quilt installation ceremony. Date and time to be announced.
Elements of the quilt include maple leaves to represent the seasons and maple syrup production. Other elements represent park activities such as cross country skiing, the beach on Eagle Lake and the heavily used camp grounds. The center image represents the popular Eagle Lake Observatory. The cow is a symbol to the park’s agricultural history as a past working farm. Join the fun and help name this unique barn quilt! Send your suggested name to arttourism@artsofcarvercounty.org by June 15th, 2021. If you have questions, please contact Janet Fahey at 612-382-4512.
