Barn QuiltBaylor Park Barn Quilt

The Art Tourism Committee has been working with the County on a barn quilt for the Baylor Regional Park barn in Norwood Young America. This newest barn quilt will join the ever growing open air art gallery of 45+ barn quilts across the County. It is projected to be installed this summer. Carver County artist, Suzanne Theisfeld has designed the quilt.

The Arts Consortium and Art Tourism Committee is inviting the public to participate in a naming contest to “name” this latest new barn quilt. The winner will be announced this summer at the barn quilt installation ceremony. Date and time to be announced.

Elements of the quilt include maple leaves to represent the seasons and maple syrup production. Other elements represent park activities such as cross country skiing, the beach on Eagle Lake and the heavily used camp grounds.  The center image represents the popular Eagle Lake Observatory.  The cow is a symbol to the park’s agricultural history as a past working farm.  Join the fun and help name this unique barn quilt!  Send your suggested name to arttourism@artsofcarvercounty.org  by June 15th, 2021.  If you have questions, please contact Janet Fahey at 612-382-4512.

Letter from ACCC President, Mary Williamson

Mary WilliamsonApril showers were prevalent last month and spring continues its whirlwind of warm days, cool nights and a few thunderstorms to wake up the trees and tulips! The colors of spring are fresh, bright and full of new life. The ACCC reflects this re-awakening with new officers and Board Members, a new collaboration with the City of Chaska and the CCC, exciting new events this summer season and of course new supporters, volunteers & members to the ACCC.

Much like our garden perennials, the ACCC is also growing!  We are thrilled with our new, highly visible Gift Shop and expansive gallery to showcase our member’s work.  If you were waiting on a good time to sell your art, literature, or music, it is time!  We are on the cusp of publishing our online store and would love to support you on the world wide web as well as in person.  Consider submitting your art for upcoming gallery shows or inquire on leading a class to expand your reach as an artist!  Our community loves to learn from those creating! Drop into the new Gift Shop and say hello, or even better, volunteer for a shift or two each month to get to know more members and visitors!  Be well, be creative!  ACCC President, Mary K. E. Celebrate Poetry Postponed

At this time, we are postponing the Poetry Celebration scheduled for April 28 in the Arts Center and Ruby’s Roost.  We do not yet have an alternative date but hope to do something in May at which all those who entered will be invited to read, and ribbons will be awarded to winners.  Joyce Sutphen, Minnesota Poet Laureate and other judges will also read.

We hope you will join us to celebrate Poetry Month and the winners in this year’s ACCC Poetry Contest on April 28, 2020.  The event will be hosted jointly by the ACCC Arts Center and Ruby’s Roost.  We will share social time with poets, family, and friends from 6:30-7:00 in the Arts Center.  We will have a poetry reading beginning at 7 pm  in Ruby’s Roost by the contest winners, others who submitted poems, and the judges.  Our reading will also feature Joyce Sutphen, Minnesota Poet Laureate, who was our awards judge.  At the conclusion of the reading, we will proceed downstairs to the Arts Center for special treats and an opportunity for photographs.  We are looking forward to the celebration and hope all will join us.

Please watch our website for further details and to see if the current health crisis necessitates we cancel or postpone.
