Ag Art Silos. Inviting Carver County Agriculturalist/Farmers to share photographs of their artistic creations

For the next two months, the Arts Consortium’s Art Tourism Committee is sponsoring a call for photographs of Silo Art.
Please include the artist’s name, name of the work, approx. date created, city/township, and your phone number in case we have any questions. Photos should be a JPG with file size of 1MB or less. Photos will be published on the ACCC Ag Art page with descriptions. Email your questions and your entry to arttourism@artsofcarvercounty.org.

Community Art Kit Project

Kandinsky Circle and Squares Art and Bake Kit

The Arts Consortium of Carver County and the Chaska Parks and Rec Department have teamed up together to co-sponsor Kandinsky Circles and Squares Art and Bake Kit. This is the first joint promotion we are doing, hopefully there will be more projects like this in the future.

Your art kit includes 4 canvas wraps, acrylic paint, paint brushes, artist bio and art instructions, recipes and produce to create your meal. Everything your family will need to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece!

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist who lived in the 1800’s. Kandinsky is generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art. You’ll learn more about him in your kit.

Cost: Kits are $30 each. Limited quantities available, so order your kit today!

Kit Pick-up date: February 18th, Register on the Chaska Parks and Rec website.

Locations: 9:30-11am at Carver City Hall or 4:30-6pm at the Chaska Community Center main lobby. If you come to the CCC, be sure to stop in to see us at the Arts Center!

Artists’ Reception for the Family Connections Exhibit

We invite the public to attend our Family Connections Exhibit, Artists’ Reception to meet and talk with artists about their work. We are CoVid prepared, state mandates at the time will apply to all guests. We look forward to seeing you and the participating artist’s visions of family at the ACCC Gallery in the Chaska Community Center.

Call for Songwriters and Musicians of Carver County by May 1

Songwriters and Musicians of Carver County Vol VII compilation – be a part of it!

The Arts Consortium of Carver County is looking for Songwriters and Musicians who have a Carver County connection for a CD compilation of original music. If you are a songwriter currently living, or has lived, in Carver County or you are a musician who is currently living, or has lived, in Carver County and have played on an original composition, we are looking for you to be a part of a musical compilation.

This is a fundraiser with proceeds used to promote the music scene in Carver County. The Songwriters and Musicians will retain ownership of their work and agree to a one time use of their work for this compilation only.

The compilation will be in the form of a CD and be available on Bandcamp.com.

You can find Volumes I to VI on the CD page on our website. CDs are sold on our website, at the ACCC Arts Center and on Bandcamp.com.

The Opalescent World of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (5 Classes in FEB)

THE OPALESCENT WORLD OF SHAKESPEARE’S TWELFTH NIGHT

Discover the joys of one of Shakespeare’s most successful comedies, Twelfth Night, or What You Will. The only play with two tantalizing titles suggests the important role an audience takes in the production. Learn how to be a good audience for this most “opalescent” play. In five sessions we will explore the theatrical qualities that have made this play a playable delight since February 2, 1601 right up through the Guthrie’s last live performance this past year.

Walter Cannon Walter W. Cannon is Professor of English Emeritus at Central College in Pella, Iowa where he taught early modern literature including Shakespeare and his contemporaries and a variety of writing courses. His reviews and essays have appeared in The Upstart Crow, Theater History Studies, Cahiers Elisabethains, and Inside Shakespeare: Essays on the Blackfriar’s Stage. He is co-editor with Laury Magnus of Who Hears in Shakespeare?: Auditory Worlds on Stage and Screen, (Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 2012) and Shakespeare’s Auditory Worlds: Hearing and Staging Practices, Then and Now (Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 2020).

You are cordially invited to explore your work and creativity and present at our upcoming Family Connections Exhibit in the Gallery. We are looking for one-of-a-kind works to showcase what family means to you. We ask you to examine your who, what, where and how you connect with family. We look to lift up your diversity and welcome all with open arms. All forms of media are encouraged and welcome. All contributing artists are encouraged to attend the Artists’ Reception. We look forward to seeing you and your individual visions of family at the ACCC Gallery in the Chaska Community Center.

Any artwork left at the Arts Center in the CCC 30 days after an exhibit ends, becomes the property of the ACCC.

EXHIBIT/ART GALLERY HOURS

PROCESS

Information about eligible works can be found on our Gallery Standard Categories & Guidelines page. Please read before you submit your Entry Fee below. Please feel free to contact us via phone or email if you have any questions. The ACCC reserves the right to curate the work upon submission. 40% commission due to the ACCC following the sale of artworks.

GUIDELINES

All work needs to be original and made by the artist.

No mass-produced items, or items made from kits.

Media considered includes paintings, drawings, photography, jewelry, glass, fiber, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, wood and multi-media.

Two-dimensional work should be framed, ready to hang with wires or canvas wrapped and wired, ready to hang. Cost of wiring will be charged to you at time of pick up if not wired.

Three-dimensional work should have finished bottoms and will be presented on pedestals.

The show will be promoted through postcards, flyers, social media, ACCC newsletter, and local papers. Exhibiting artists will pick up Exhibit postcards to hand out and help promote the Artists’ Reception and the Exhibit, pick up at Art Drop off. Copy the image of the postcard below and post it on your website and social media.

Membership is not required to be in the show. We invite you to join if you are a nonmember to enjoy many benefits and to save on entry fees. To Join the ACCC, go to our Membership page, renewals can be done on the Account page on our website. We will notify all artists via email regarding acceptance to the exhibit by the Notification of Acceptance date listed above. If space provides, we may contact you to submit additional work for the show.

Members, please SIGN IN to your ACCC Account to Register and pay the Entry Fee online. If you haven’t signed into your ACCC Membership Account for a while, please go to our Account page for instructions and to request your password. Membership status questions can be sent to membership@artsofcarvercounty.org.  If your account is past due, you will not be able to pay the Member Rate Entry Fee until annual membership fee is paid.

VOLUNTEER AT ARTS CENTER
Any ACCC Member with artwork in our Gift Shop or in an Exhibit who works 6+ hours in the Arts Center in a given month will earn an extra 10% commission on the sale of their work for that month. To indicate you’d like to become a Volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Form on our Volunteer page on our website.

ACCC Members $15 for first entry, $5 for each additional entry, up to 4 total.

Nonmembers $25 for first entry, $10 for each additional entry, up to 4 total.

If you are a NEW ARTIST to ACCC Exhibits, AFTER your work is accepted, go to the How To Submit Art page and submit your actual works.

RETURNING ARTISTS, go right to the How To Submit Art page after you Register/Pay Entry Fee.

Labeled artwork can be brought to the Chaska Community Center on the Art Drop-Off date listed above. Please make sure your item label matches artwork submitted for the exhibit. Wall artwork must be ready to be hung with wire on the back of your work.

ArtMatters Newsletter Jan 2021

New in 2021
Seems hard to believe we have made it across the 2020 finish line but we did and are so thankful for the support we received from the community throughout these tough times. While the Arts Consortium had to pull back and alter much of our programming for 2020, we have been hard at work behind the scenes to bring an amazing 2021 to fruition. Be on the lookout for new classes online and, when we can, in-person. There will be an amazing 10th Anniversary of ArtStock Art, Wine & Music Festival that is being planned already. Exciting news will be forthcoming about a new ACCC online store. There is so much more to share, stay tuned! 2021 Is looking to be a stellar year; thank you for being part of this inspiring community of artists, writers, musicians and lovers of all things art. Cue the fireworks!

Minnesota State and Clean WaterWe are happy to announce that our first grant for “The Art of Being Human Series – Creating Community through the Arts”  has been accepted! It is about opening new horizons with the intersection of race, class, gender and inclusivity in Carver County Communities. We look forward to starting this programing this year. Watch for new activities and class offerings in 2021. Thank you to Anne Krocak and Cindy Anderson for putting the grant together, we are so pleased that it was accepted!

“Fresh Work” for Artists in Carver County is a new group for ACCC Members that will meet monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 1pm, starting on January 13, 2021. This is free to any member who would like to join to share art and support each other in their art careers. Meeting details are on our website. Live Online Art Classes for all ages by Anne and Phoenix Designs
A weekly online live course coming soon. Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 4-5 pm for any age or ability to join in the small group fun. Class will be limited to 5 participants and a small donation of $5/student/class for the ACCC is requested. Students will register and a link will be sent for the online access. A list of art materials will be listed with the class registration information on our website. We would like to thank our 30+ Arts Center Volunteers and supporting Artist Gift Shop Helpers who took shifts the past few months to keep our Arts Center Gallery and Gift Shop OPEN. We appreciate your dedication and commitment to the ACCC. The sales for our Holiday Gift Show (Nov-Dec) were higher than 2019, even with the pandemic! That was possible because of our volunteers and the beautiful works submitted by our ACCC Members! We look forward to seeing everyone at the Arts Center as we bring in new inventory for the new year! Michelle Aspelin has been serving as our Interim Arts Center Volunteer Coordinator. Welcome to 2021! We hope you had a warm and safe holiday season, and are ready for all the New Year has to offer. January kicks off with three exciting events: Our Flash Fiction Contest starts January 1st with the theme: “A Very Bad Day with a Very Good Ending”, see info below. Later in the month look for a limited run virtual course on Twelfth Night presented by Walter Cannon, as well as a virtual book launch of View from the Shore, an anthology work by the members of the Waconia Writers Group. If you’d like to plan ahead, the theme of the April Poetry Contest has been announced as “Change”, the deadline for submissions is March 1stPlease check our webpage and Facebook page for updates on these and other events. ATTENTION WRITERS: We all love happy endings, so conjure one up and enter it in the  2021 flash fiction contest sponsored by the Arts Consortium of Carver County (ACCC).

The theme is A VERY BAD DAY WITH A VERY GOOD ENDING. Those words do not have to appear in the body of the story, and per flash fiction definition your entry should have a distinct beginning, middle and end. Maximum story length is 600 words. Entry deadline is Feb. 1, 2021. All five periods will be presented. Including, highlights about the most famous composers and their compositions. With each to listen to, scores to view, and stories to tell, you’ll be guided through the distinct aspects of this amazing European music we call “the classics”.
