flash fiction contest

ACCC Flash Fiction Contest Submit by Jan 31

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

ACCC Flash Fiction Contest 2020

This is a writing contest for very short yet complete stories having a distinct beginning, middle and end. The ACCC Flash Fiction Contest 2020 will be blind-judged (that is, without judges knowing author names, just the title of each piece).

Date
Contest begins December 1, 2019

Deadline for Submissions
By midnight on January 31, 2020

Details
Get your creative juices flowing. The Flash Fiction Contest theme is IN THE BEGINNING, and entries must be 600 words or less. That three-word theme does not have to appear in the body of the story.

For the first time our contest will have two categories:
Young Adult , ages 13-18
Adult, 19 and older

Participants do not need to be residents of Carver County or members of the ACCC.

Submit your work in the body of an email sent to:  flashfiction@artsofcarvercounty.org. Include your name, phone, age category and story title. Attached files and handwritten entries will not be accepted.

Judges will determine the top three winners in each category. All submitting authors are invited to an event scheduled for Mar. 5, 2020 at the Art Center in Victoria. Come at 6:30pm for social time, program starts at 7pm. The ACCC Flash Fiction Contest winners will be announced and there will be an opportunity to read submissions.

Remember, flash fiction should tell a complete story, with a clear beginning, middle and end. Entries should focus on one event or situation and involve only one conclusion, which should come as a shock, surprise or feeling of satisfaction. Try to limit the number of characters and set your story within a well-defined space. The theme for this contest should lend itself well to first-person narrative, though this is not a requirement. The essential quality of this genre is its limited scope which leads forcefully (yet logically) to an impact.

Shakespeare – Hamlet Class Series Starting Feb 25

This class has been cancelled.

Shakespeare Returns to the Arts Consortium of Carver County’s Art Center

Hamlet is the play.  The 4-week class will meet on Tuesday mornings.  The tragedy is the core of the class, but, as an introduction, it includes a capsulized history of drama and the worldview as the Middle Ages tumbled into the Renaissance. And, of course, we explore the life of William Shakespeare: the man, the playwright, the poet and the culture of the Elizabethan Era.

Contributing to the depth of the study, two local scholars will be guest speakers – Walter Canon, PhD in Shakespeare and Joyce Sutphen, PhD in the Renaissance.
