A jury will again select the top three entries, and all submitters will have an opportunity to read their work during an End of Show reception set for Sunday, Aug. 27, 2-4 p.m.

The show promotes this theme: Spirit is all around and within us, understood in myriad ways. We recognize that everything that is sacred begins with the experience of spirit. Inspired expression shines through every religious tradition and culture since the dawn of human consciousness.

Sower Gallery Writing Contest – Call For Submissions

Exhibit: June 12 through September 15, 2017

Location:
The Sower Gallery located at Shepherd of the Hill Church in Chaska, MN (MN Hwy 41 and Engler Blvd)

Deadline for Round 1: May 30, 2017

Literary Artists:
The Sower Gallery is preparing for a summer-long exhibition entitled Spirit Biennial and has asked the Writers’ Group to submit poetry and short prose to be read during that exhibit. It will run from June 12 through September 15, 2017.

The show promotes this theme: Spirit is all around and within us, understood in myriad ways. We recognize that everything that is sacred begins with the experience of spirit. Inspired expression shines through every religious tradition and culture since the dawn of human consciousness.

The Gallery has invited Writers Group authors to express their own visions of the Spirit and the Sacred. Interpretation, content or focus is open to the artist. Because this event takes place in a church common area overtly sexual, demonic, satanic, excessively violent or sacrilegious themes will not be accepted.

Submissions will take place in two rounds, and entries will be juried. The first round will be based on the show’s theme only, before the artwork is up for viewing. A second round will be based on authors visiting the gallery and interpreting or taking inspiration from one specific artwork. More details on round two available June 1.

The first round will select the top three entries to participate in what is envisioned as sort of pop-up theater during the show’s opening reception, scheduled for Saturday, June 17 from 7-9 p.m. These top three will be presented as live readings during that reception. The structure and timing has yet to be determined, but planners envision these as fluid presentations rather than podium readings.

Poetry should be one page or less. Prose less than 400 words.

Deadline for first round: May 30.
We realize that this is a very narrow window, but after witnessing your work at Writers’ Group sessions, I am confident that many of you already have excellent, appropriate work in your portfolios. Previously published work is welcome.
