Volunteer at Arts Center
We would like each artist to contribute their time by volunteering for two shifts at the Arts Center during the Holiday Show to experience first-hand the excitement the Holiday Show brings our guests. You will be volunteering alongside an experienced volunteer, performing tasks like greeting guests, helping package up purchases, monitoring the space.  Last year, October-December, we experienced a significant increase in guests and it’s nice to have another set of eyes working with you. And if you like it, you can become a regular volunteer at the Center! Center hours are listed above. The Arts Center Volunteer Coordinator is Barb Kelzer, and she will reach out to you after artists have been accepted for the Holiday Show. Or, if you are interested in volunteering now,  you can reach her at 612-986-8415 to learn more.  Please have your calendars ready when you drop off your artwork so you can sign up for a open shift at the Gallery for holiday show to talk about your artwork to our guests.

Michelle Plombon

Featured Artist Michelle Plombon

Michelle Plombon artistMichelle grew up in Chicago in a home filled with a love for the arts. She has fond memories of her mother offering advice on perspective in her drawings – which she often preferred to ignore. As Michelle’s drawing style evolved, she discovered Matisse. The patterns that filled his work drew her in, and she was fascinated precisely because his work was not in perspective.

One of the most rewarding aspects Michelle’s first career as a primary school teacher when she was able to turn class assignments into art projects. A decade later, she decided to switch things up and become an art student instead of an art teacher, and the course of her life work started down a new path.

A pottery class at a local art center led to wading into the local arts community with gusto. Work in pottery led to studies in abstract painting, and Michelle was “hooked”! A happy accident while trying to stretch her art supplies resulted in her unique technique of texturing her paints while on the palette paper and then applying the paper directly to her canvas. Over the years she has refined her technique and even applied it to her pottery glazing work.

Michelle has exhibited her paintings, prints and pottery at the Edina Westin Galleries, the Cambria Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, among others. The Arts Consortium is pleased to feature her work in the ACCC Arts Center July 10 – August 23.

George Crockett

Featured Work by George Crockett

FEATURED ARTIST

Carver County Artist George Crockett will be the next featured artist in the Arts Center. His work will be on view from mid-May through June. He favors landscapes in his paintings, which are done in pastels. As he says, “Pastels are ready to use with very little preparation time and no clean up time. The hardest part for me is just getting started. Often, I have no idea where the painting will go. It’s the little surprises that happen in the process that motivate me to keep moving on. I am always hoping there will be an element of mystery in the end product. My favorite places for subject matter are S. E. Minnesota, S.W. Wisconsin and N. E. Iowa.” George Crockett reports that he trained with “some wonderful art teachers at Worthington High School and at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. I find Picasso was right when he said ‘Inspiration exists but has to find us working.’”

Call for Artists – Nature: Water & Waves Exhibit (June 12 – Aug 23)

Call for Artists

EXHIBIT
Nature: Water and Waves

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The subject of Water and Waves covers so many possible images. Water is the bases of life. It can be part of a vista anywhere in the world but especially in Minnesota with so many lakes and rivers. Water is found indoors and outdoors. It can be frozen, pristine or dangerous. Life lives within it. Use your imagination.

When one first hears the word, waves you think of water.  Sometimes waves can be damaging because they are so strong or they can be hardly there. Waves can be seen in landscape with the phrase “waves of grain”.  One can also think of clouds such as a cold front wave is coming through. I even think of waves in hair on person or dog’s body.  These are only a few of the images that come to mind when thinking about the word, waves.  We are looking forward to seeing how you interpret the subject of water and waves.

All media is welcome.
