Featured Artist Michelle Plombon
Michelle grew up in Chicago in a home filled with a love for the arts. She has fond memories of her mother offering advice on perspective in her drawings – which she often preferred to ignore. As Michelle’s drawing style evolved, she discovered Matisse. The patterns that filled his work drew her in, and she was fascinated precisely because his work was not in perspective.
One of the most rewarding aspects Michelle’s first career as a primary school teacher when she was able to turn class assignments into art projects. A decade later, she decided to switch things up and become an art student instead of an art teacher, and the course of her life work started down a new path.
A pottery class at a local art center led to wading into the local arts community with gusto. Work in pottery led to studies in abstract painting, and Michelle was “hooked”! A happy accident while trying to stretch her art supplies resulted in her unique technique of texturing her paints while on the palette paper and then applying the paper directly to her canvas. Over the years she has refined her technique and even applied it to her pottery glazing work.
Michelle has exhibited her paintings, prints and pottery at the Edina Westin Galleries, the Cambria Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnetonka Center for the Arts, among others. The Arts Consortium is pleased to feature her work in the ACCC Arts Center July 10 – August 23.
